Our Mission
Our work involves the preservation and protection of the water and land of Clearwater Bay. We work hard to ensure just and fair discourse with stakeholders so all can benefit from the bounty of Clearwater Bay for generations to come.
We are calling on the Ontario Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry (MNDMNRF) to reconsider their plans for clearcutting the forests in the Clearwater Bay watershed.
We urge the Ministry to live up to Premier Doug Ford's commitment to “keep Ontario beautiful by protecting its waterways”.
The Problem
The current proposed clearcutting plans undercut the Ministry’s own restrictions on Clearwater Bay that have been designed to protect the water quality, its fragile lake trout habitat and many other endangered wildlife species.
- Forests are an integral part of the health of the ecosystem by acting as filters to absorb and reduce harmful nutrients from entering the lake
- An excess of nutrients creates algae blooms that take over the shoreline and reduce oxygen levels in the water
- The disruption to the ecosystem threatens the lake trout and more than a dozen other endangered wildlife species.
