Our pillar of work

Our goal is to work cooperatively with all stakeholders to ensure a balance exists between the preservation of the Clearwater Bay ecosystems and the sustainable resource management of the surrounding forests.

a sustainable forest

CWBSF is appealing to the Ministry to reconsider a Forest Management Plan (FMP) that will clearcut areas near Clearwater Bay subject to the Restricted Area Order (RAO) and close to the area’s residential properties.

We are working to ensure the resource management of the nearby forests remain sustainable and consider the preservation of the ecosystems of Clearwater Bay. We acknowledge the importance of the logging industry for the Kenora District and its contribution to the local economy.
Our mission is not to deny the livelihood of people involved in logging in the Kenora District, but to protect the ecosystem of Clearwater Bay.
Several meetings have taken place between the board of the Foundation and the Ministry’s representatives in Kenora to discuss the rules and regulations of the FMP. The Ministry does not deem it necessary to conduct a new Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to confirm whether its FMP will negatively impact Clearwater Bay.  We are requesting the Ministry to move the proposed logging to an area less sensitive to the protected Restricted Area.  We are working to ensure proper analysis of clearcutting activities takes place.
